my reason. my passion. my why.

my story

Some of my earliest memories are in a dance studio.

At just three years old, I laced up my first pair of dance shoes, never realizing they would lead me on an 18-year journey that would shape not only the dancer I became, but the woman I am today. For 12 years of my dance career, I competed in regional and national competitions winning high scores and cash prizes/scholarships. I even experienced dancing internationally at the Mexican Dance Festival in Cancun & Cozumel, as well as special dance appearances performed on center court at New York Knicks and New York Liberty basketball games at Madison Square Garden & Radio City Music Hall, Macy’s Tap-O-Mania in NYC, Great Adventure Performance events, and countless local and statewide showcases. During my college years I attended Montclair State University (MSU) and went on to achieve my master’s degree in accounting, with the lifelong dream of owning & operating my own studio in the future! I continued my love for dance at MSU by taking dance courses and joining a student organization for dance.

Dance taught me discipline before I understood the word. It taught me resilience through every challenge, confidence through every performance, and the value of working toward something bigger than myself. It gave me lifelong friendships, unforgettable experiences, and a place where I always felt I belonged.

Those lessons never left me.

Today, as a wife, mother, corporate executive, and dance mom, I understand that families are looking for more than great choreography. They’re looking for a place where their children will be encouraged, challenged, supported, and genuinely cared for.

That vision became Studio 149 Dance Collective.

Inspired by Psalm 149:3, “Let them praise his name with dancing,” Studio 149 was founded on the belief that dance has the power to develop both exceptional performers and exceptional people. While technical excellence is one of our highest priorities, we believe character, confidence, kindness, and integrity deserve just as much attention.

Every class is designed to help dancers grow—not only in their artistry, but in their belief in themselves.

Whether a child is taking their very first tiny tot movement class or pursuing advanced training, every dancer is known by name, celebrated for their progress, and encouraged to become the very best version of themselves.

Our mission is reflected in three words that guide everything we do:

Excellence. Confidence. Community.

Excellence means pursuing your personal best with purpose and discipline.

Confidence is built through preparation, perseverance, and believing that you are capable of more than you imagined.

Community means creating a place where every dancer and every family feel welcomed, respected, and connected.

My greatest hope is that years from now, our dancers won’t remember only the routines they performed—they’ll remember how this studio made them feel. They’ll remember the friendships they built, the confidence they discovered, the resilience they developed, and the belief that they could accomplish hard things.

Because while trophies eventually collect dust, the lessons learned through dance last a lifetime. At Studio 149, we’re not just developing dancers—we’re inspiring confident leaders, compassionate teammates, and young people who carry excellence with them wherever life leads.

Thank you for considering Studio 149 Dance Collective. It would be an honor to become part of your family’s story, and I can’t wait to welcome you into ours.

With gratitude,

Nora Copeland
